Have more fun Everyday

I get asked this one question more than any other question.

“Has anyone told you, that you look like Jake Gyllenhaal?

But the SECOND most common question I get is…

“What’s your secret to always being in a good mood?”

Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not always in a good mood. In fact there are many times when I’m in a particularly sh*tty mood, but I do my best.

My secret to living a life primarily of joy is to consistently be in a state of play. Remember when you were a kid, most of your day was filled with laughter, fun, outdoor play, scraping your knees, etc. For me, those were some of the best days of my life.

So I asked myself, how can I bring that state of joy and play to my every day? Despite a 9-5, the stress of paying bills, traffic, etc.

Here are 5 ways to infuse play into your every day, so that you can stay young forever.

HOW TO infuse play into your every day

  1. Sing in the shower! 🎤

Belt your favorite song to start your day, like no one is listening. Imagine you’re the lead singer playing in front of thousands, if you have people that live in your home with you, spread joy by letting them hear you (whether you’re bad or good, the reaction is the same).

  2. Dance in the car!🕺💃

Turn up your favorite jam during your commute, and get jiggy with it. Not every car ride has to be educational and filled with a podcast, audiobook, or a call with coworkers. A little shoulder action never hurt anybody. (Just keep your eyes on the road)

  1. Wear bright colors! 🔆

Buy and wear clothes that make you stand out AND feel good. The more play you infuse in your fashion, the more joy you experience wearing it. Increased confidence directly impacts how much fun you have walking around town.

  1. Make lighthearted jokes! 😂

Respectively of course. If you don’t find yourself funny, try bringing an approachable and fun energy to the way you connect and conversate with others. Conversation doesn’t HAVE to be serious to be effective.

  1. Simply have more fun! 🎡

Plan activities with your close friends or family on a regular basis. Sitting around watching Netflix on your coach is not play. Remember what you thought was fun as a kid and give those a try. (My favorite activities are mini-golf, arcades, and dance!)

WHY infuse play into your day

Research has shown that play boosts endorphins, improving mood and mental health by fostering new neural connections in the brain.

Think about what’s possible for your life if you walked around this world as a source of fun, joy and happiness. What connections would you make? Which opportunities would you attract? Who would you meet?

Do one of these each day this week and your entire mood will shift.

Do these everyday for the next month and your entire life will shift.
